When will it be introduced?

The new numerical grading scale for GCSE English and maths was introduced in England in 2017. The new system will continue to be rolled out in 2018, until it is implemented for all GCSE subjects in 2019.

How is the new system different?

This change has been introduced to reflect GCSE reforms, where the content is more challenging and there is a greater focus on problem solving. The new scale is designed to allow for greater differentiation between students. For example, fewer students will achieve a grade 9 compared to an A* in the previous system.
